Large images are one of the most common reasons websites feel slow. Converting them to a modern format such as WebP or AVIF can shrink file sizes dramatically while keeping them sharp, which helps your pages load faster on both mobile and desktop.
Each format has its own strengths. Use this quick guide to pick the right one for your project.
| Format | Best For | Compression | Transparency | Compatibility |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| JPG / JPEG | Photographs and general sharing | Lossy | No | Works everywhere |
| PNG | Logos, icons, screenshots, graphics with text | Lossless | Yes | Works everywhere |
| WebP | Websites, blogs, online stores | Lossy or lossless | Yes | All modern browsers |
| AVIF | Smallest file sizes for modern websites | Lossy or lossless | Yes | Modern browsers |
Choose WebP or AVIF for website photos. Choose JPEG when you need a file that opens on every device, app and printer.
Choose PNG or WebP to keep edges crisp and preserve transparent backgrounds.
Choose AVIF. It often gives the best compression, especially for detailed photos, and is a great fit for fast, modern websites.
If most of your files are PNG screenshots or graphics, you can also try the Image Converter on PNGtoWebP.in, which converts between WebP, AVIF, JPG and PNG with a quality slider and optional resize. For batch jobs and ZIP download, its dedicated PNG to WebP Converter is built for exactly that task. After converting, run your page through our SEO Score Checker to confirm the speed gain.
Unlike many online converters, Image Converter Pro does not send your pictures to a remote server. The entire conversion runs locally in your browser, so your files stay on your device from start to finish. You can read more in our Privacy Policy.

You can upload JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP and AVIF images and convert them to WebP, AVIF, JPEG or PNG. Choose the output format from the drop-down menu before clicking Convert & Download.
You can convert up to 3 images at once, and each image can be up to 20 MB. If you need to convert more files, simply run another batch after the first one is done.
JPEG, WebP and AVIF are lossy formats, so a small amount of detail is traded for a much smaller file. At normal settings the difference is usually hard to notice. PNG is lossless, but converting a lossy image such as a JPG to PNG will not bring back detail that was already lost. For best results, always convert from your original, highest-quality file and avoid converting the same image again and again.
AVIF usually produces the smallest files at similar visual quality, while WebP is supported almost everywhere and is quick to produce. If you want maximum compatibility, choose WebP. If you want the smallest possible file size and your visitors use modern browsers, choose AVIF.
Creating AVIF files from the browser depends on whether your browser can encode AVIF. If the AVIF option does not work for you, update your browser or switch to WebP, which works in all modern browsers.
Transparency is preserved when you convert to PNG, WebP or AVIF. JPEG does not support transparency, so transparent areas cannot stay transparent in a JPEG file. Pick PNG or WebP if your logo or icon needs a see-through background.
